Originally from India, our filipino farmers from Visayas are now cultivating this variety. Basmati came from the sanskrit word 'basamati' meaning full of fragrance or aroma. Our local basmati came from the farmers of Iloilo, and is freshly harvested and milled. It has long grains, very aromatic scent, and a nutty flavor.
This rice is mostly used for biryani, indian and middle eastern dishes, but now widely used around the world as a special rice. Basmati is deliciously perfect with our saucy dishes like adobo, menudo, afritada or kaldereta. Try it now--this may be your next favorite rice.
